Criminal Defense Attorney | Former Prosecutor | Combat Veteran
David Denninger is a seasoned trial attorney, former prosecutor, and decorated U.S. Army veteran who brings a relentless commitment to justice and precision in every case he takes on. A founding partner at Denninger & Philbeck, PLLC, David focuses exclusively on criminal defense, representing individuals facing charges ranging from DWI and assault to high-level felonies and homicide.
David served for ten years as an Assistant District Attorney in Buncombe and McDowell Counties, where he prosecuted thousands of cases in both District and Superior Court. He spent several years as Buncombe County’s dedicated sex crimes prosecutor, handling some of the most serious and sensitive matters in the criminal justice system, including rape, child pornography, and violent crimes against children. His time as a prosecutor gives him a critical edge in anticipating and dismantling the government’s case against his clients.
Before becoming a lawyer, David served in the United States Army, where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant through Army ROTC. He graduated first in his class of 341 officers from the Army’s Basic Officer Leadership Course and deployed to Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. As a platoon leader, he and his unit earned recognition from General David Petraeus for defending a Forward Operating Base during an insurgent attack. David concluded his service as a Captain and Company Commander.
